Youth Advisory Council
Empowering Youth Voices in Council Leadership
The California Inland Empire Council Youth Advisory Board (CIEC YAC) is a dynamic group of Scouts selected to represent the youth perspective in the development, direction, and improvement of Scouting programs across the council. This Council ensures that the voices of young people are not only heard but actively shape the future of Scouting in our region.
Purpose & Role
- Youth-Driven Insight: The YAC provides meaningful input on council activities, program planning, and strategic initiatives, helping adult leaders understand what today’s Scouts want and need from the Scouting experience.
- Collaborative Planning: Members participate in brainstorming sessions, event planning reviews, and policy feedback, contributing directly to how council programs are shaped and delivered.
Membership & Eligibility
- Open to Scouts ages 14 to 18 who are currently active in a Scouts BSA, Venturing, or Sea Scouting unit.
- Applicants must demonstrate strong leadership, a passion for Scouting, and a willingness to represent their peers.
- Youth must hold or have held a unit or district leadership position (e.g., SPL, ASPL, Crew President, Boatswain, etc.).
Structure & Term
- Term of Service: One year, beginning in the fall and running through the following summer.
- Meetings: The board meets quarterly (either in person or virtually) to discuss council-wide initiatives and provide recommendations to the Council Key 3 and program committees.
- Advisor: The Youth Advisory Board is supported and guided by Crystal Pastorian, who serves as the adult advisor. She can be reached at crystal.pastorian@gmail.com.
- Application Process: Scouts interested in joining must complete a brief application.
Impact & Opportunities
- Leadership Development: Council members gain valuable experience in communication, teamwork, and strategic thinking.
- Representation: The board reflects the diversity and ideas of youth across the council’s many districts, ensuring broad and inclusive representation in decision-making.
